Sintered Samarium Cobalt Magnets – High-Performance Rare Earth Magnets

Magworks LLC offers a premium selection of sintered Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) rare earth magnets, renowned for their exceptional performance in high-temperature settings. Crafted through advanced powder metallurgy techniques, these magnets benefit from meticulous process control and complex heat treatment cycles. Their composition typically includes around 35% Samarium and 60% Cobalt, supplemented with Fe & Cu.

We produce two main grades of SmCo magnets – 1:5 and 2:17 – each distinct in terms of energy product, temperature coefficient, and saturation magnetisation force. The 2:17 grade, though slightly more costly, provides superior performance with a lower temperature coefficient and requires high magnetic fields for magnetisation.

Both grades exhibit excellent energy, temperature, and corrosion resistance, making them ideal for high-energy compact fields, particularly in temperatures above 100°C or in harsh environments. These magnets are widely used in industries like servo-motors, robotics, machine tools, relays, sensors, and UHV magnetrons.

We maintain stock of the high-performance 2:17 grade in disc or block form. For non-standard sizes, we offer efficient customization through slicing or grinding. It’s crucial to handle these magnetised materials with care due to their brittleness, to prevent injury or damage.

In motors and generators, where resistance to corrosion and high temperatures is vital, Samarium Cobalt magnets are a preferred choice. We can manufacture bespoke Samarium Arc Segments for these applications, in addition to offering a range of standard parts.
